I too have childhood memories of grandparents, of mostly being outdoors, hand-me-down and home-made clothes and of a life that seemed so much simpler, though I am sure still quite different from yours. I too played often with my brother, though had no cousins. One played with whatever other children lived in the neighbourhood too, regardless of ages. Thanks for sharing these delightful photos. I imagined you with blond hair for some reason. Other than hair, you did not change much - take the photo of you with the skis - now and then, it's the same Beate! Or you in your cute little coat and sunnies - it still the same Beatochka!

I think we probably had a very similar childhood, in many ways. I too spent lots of time with family - many cousins. Clothes sometimes were passed on, but not typically, really. But we always had a very few items, and did not know any other way to live. I had a very happy childhood, though I really don't think it's because of the simplicity and less consumption. It's people, relationship, love that surrounded me. When I worked with kids here in the US, one of parents told me about how our life back in the USSR was so much simpler and we had less - so we used our imagination to create stuff, and how kids here nowadays don't have imagination because of all the stuff they have. It's so not true. It's all relative. Anya is growing up here, and always had plenty of toys and clothes, and yet she has an amazing imagination, very creative mind and good heart. She also has friends like her, kind, smart and creative... and not everyone who shared our childhood could say the same about themselves...

Love you xxxxxNatalia Lialinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07552652475347261756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7900207826814243001.post-20365912452852399792015-04-20T20:13:27.957+02:002015-04-20T20:13:27.957+02:00Such a treat to see these photos from your childho...Such a treat to see these photos from your childhood, Beate. Yes, I'm sure the regime was tough to live under, but it sounds as though you kids enjoyed a carefree time.
Herzlichst AntjeAntjehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16984356618445210439noreply@blogger.com
